Choosing a Bangkok neighbourhood: Thonglor, Sathorn, Ari and more

Bangkok is a city of very different neighbourhoods, often only a few train stops apart. Choosing the right one shapes your days more than any floor plan. Here is how we think about a few of the places our clients ask about most.
Phrom Phong and Thonglor
Along Sukhumvit, Phrom Phong and Thonglor are lively, international and convenient, with parks, shopping, restaurants and many international schools within reach. Thonglor and Ekkamai feel a little younger and more independent, with cafés and small restaurants on the side streets.
They suit people who want everything close by and are happy with energy around them. Traffic on the main roads can be heavy, so being near the BTS makes a real difference.
Sathorn and Silom
Bangkok’s business district, close to Lumpini Park, with established residential buildings set back from the main roads. Many people working in the city centre choose it for short commutes and calm, green surroundings in the evening.
Chidlom, Ploenchit and Lumpini
Central and refined, between the embassies, the large shopping centres and Lumpini Park. Buildings here tend to be quieter and well kept. It suits people who value a central address and short distances above everything else.
Ari
A leafy, residential neighbourhood to the north on the BTS line, loved for its small cafés, local markets and slower pace. It feels like a village inside the city and often offers more space for the money than central Sukhumvit.

The riverside
Along the Chao Phraya, the riverside offers wide views, a calmer rhythm and some of the city’s most characterful buildings. Getting around often involves the river boats or the BTS at Saphan Taksin. It suits people who want to come home to space and a view.
Finding your fit
The best neighbourhood is the one that fits your week, not the one with the best reputation. In a first conversation we usually ask about work, school, how you like to spend a Sunday and what you want to avoid. The shortlist tends to follow from there, and you can see what is available now in our current properties.
